Gallerie MAI during Nuit Blanche, Montreal (2017). Three 52” screens.
Faces is composed of slowly rotating faces that get distorted in real-time based on the processing of sound from the environment. The work takes the human face into consideration as an abstract object, and establishes it as a contemporaneously digitalized, and potentially surveilled form. The 3D mesh of each face is generated as well as textured from scraping Google images and stock photos to create an extensive and continual database of faces. From this process, themes of appropriation and digital privacy are brought into question.
