BIRD WATCHING (2024)

MULTICHANNEL CG VIDEO

"Bird Watching" is a multi-screen CGI artwork that showcases images of birds not in flight or in nature, but rather in unusual domestic settings. Throughout the course of the work, these birds slowly deviate from typical bird behavior and engage in grotesque and unconventional activities such as bathing in urinals and consuming strange seemingly inedible objects. Unlike the hyper-anthropomorphic computer animations commonly encountered, the birds in this work exhibit natural avian behaviors, albeit in very uncharacteristic contexts. The work challenges the current trend of instantaneously generated images facilitated by rapidly evolving generative technologies. Instead, this animation is meticulously crafted "by hand," with attention given to every twitch and jerky movement of the computer generated birds.
